Lesson Study through a Mathematics Lens is a 40-hour interactive online course developed to support K-12 mathematics educators as they learn about the process and the implementation of lesson study.  Course participants will be engaged in the key elements of lesson study and will share the expertise of mathematicians and have the guidance of experienced facilitators throughout the course.

Course Objectives:
The course provides real life examples with annotation to make the abstract clear and attainable.  It builds upon earlier work and research around lesson study and addresses its sustainability as teachers begin implementation.

The objectives are:
• To make explicit the key elements of lesson study
• To show groups working through challenges that arise
• To support an unrelenting focus on student thinking and learning
• To support lesson study groups with video examples, commentary, practice and resource materials.

The lesson-study process has an unrelenting focus on student learning.  All efforts to improve lessons are evaluated with respect to clearly specified learning goals, and revisions are always justified with respect to student thinking and learning.
